Ah, Internet Explorer. Ya’ll remember that ol’ trusty browser, right? That thing been on folks’ computers since way back in 1995! Oh, that was a long time ago, child. Back then, when folks didn’t know nothin’ about fast Internet or nothin’, Internet Explorer was a big deal! Every time folks wanted to search somethin’ up, there it was, slow and steady, just like that old farm mule. I reckon lots of us been usin’ it for years and years.
Well, now, it’s time to say goodbye. Microsoft finally put an end to it on June 15, 2022. They said it was time for Internet Explorer to rest, and they want folks to start usin’ somethin’ called Microsoft Edge instead. They say it’s faster and more secure, got all sorts of fancy bells and whistles that Internet Explorer just never had. Don’t that beat all? The thing about Internet Explorer is, it was like an old friend, just there when ya needed it, even if it took its sweet time to load up a page.
Now, I know some folks don’t take too well to change. I mean, who wants to learn somethin’ new when what we had worked just fine, huh? But Microsoft said if folks wanna stay safe and keep up with things on the Internet, well, they best switch over to Microsoft Edge. That Edge thing even got somethin’ called “IE Mode” to make sure ya can still get to the older websites that only work on Internet Explorer. They said it’ll be good till at least 2029, so folks got some time to make the switch.
A Little Bit of History for Ya
Now, Internet Explorer wasn’t always the slowpoke we think of today. Back in the day, when it first come out, folks thought it was somethin’ special. That was in 1995, like I said. Microsoft put it out based on some software they licensed from another company, Spyglass Inc., callin’ it Internet Explorer 1. Over the years, they kept bringin’ out new versions, always tryin’ to make it better. But you know how it goes – time don’t stop for nobody, not even ol’ Internet Explorer.
Fast forward to the early 2000s, Internet Explorer was like the king of all browsers. Just about everyone used it – if you had a computer, chances are you were on Internet Explorer. But times changed. Faster, fancier browsers started poppin’ up – folks started usin’ Firefox, then Google Chrome come along, and that one just took off like wildfire. Internet Explorer started feelin’ a bit outdated next to them young whippersnappers, and folks just moved on. But, bless its heart, it hung on till Microsoft finally decided to pull the plug for good.
What Does This Mean for Us Now?
Well, if you were still usin’ Internet Explorer up till now, first off, bless your patience! But don’t you worry – Microsoft Edge is here, and they say it’s quicker, safer, and all sorts of better. They already made it so Internet Explorer don’t work on a lot of computers with Windows 10. If you try openin’ it, it just sends ya over to Microsoft Edge anyway.
- Microsoft Edge: This is the new browser they want us to use now. It’s got better security and all sorts of tools that work nice with Windows.
- IE Mode: For those older websites that still need Internet Explorer, Edge can switch over to IE Mode so everything works smooth.
- Support Till 2029: Microsoft says they’ll keep this IE Mode goin’ till at least 2029, so folks have plenty of time to get used to it.
So, while Internet Explorer might be gone from our screens, it ain’t forgotten. Folks like me who remember when it first come out, well, we got our memories. And for them who need to keep accessin’ older sites, IE Mode in Microsoft Edge got ya covered. It’s like havin’ a little piece of Internet Explorer still with us, even as we move on to faster, newer things. But, boy, it sure feels like the end of an era, don’t it?
So, rest in peace, Internet Explorer. Thanks for all them years you stuck by us. You may not have been the fanciest or the fastest, but you sure were there when we needed ya. Now, let’s see what this Microsoft Edge got in store, huh?
